Peninsula Little League

Volunteer FAQs

Why Volunteer

Peninsula Little League is a non-profit organization that runs entirely on volunteer power. We have no paid employees, on the board or anywhere else. We strongly encourage every parent or guardian of a Little League Baseball or Softball player to get involved. Our Board of Directors is made up of parents with full-time jobs, so we understand the extra effort it takes to show up and volunteer. Your time and commitment truly matter, and we don’t take it for granted. We genuinely couldn’t run this league without you.

As a parent volunteer, you get the chance to spend meaningful time with your child in a safe, fun environment. Kids’ and parents’ social worlds often run side by side, but volunteering brings them together. It lets you share experiences, interests, and goals, all on the same field.

What do Volunteers Do?

No experience is needed to volunteer. Most roles require little to no training, and Peninsula Little League will provide any instruction, support, and encouragement you need. The best volunteers are those who show up, have fun, and bring their own personality and energy to the field.

What you see during a game is only a small part of what volunteers make possible, your involvement has a much bigger impact than you might imagine.

Volunteer Roles

Peninsula Little League Volunteer Opportunities

Head Coach / Team Manager
The Manager leads the team and oversees practices, lineups, and teaching baseball fundamentals. Prior baseball knowledge is helpful, but not required. What matters most is a willingness to teach, learn, and inspire young players.

Assistant Coach
Assistant Coaches support the Manager at practices, coach first and third base during games, and step in when the Manager is unavailable. Two coaches per team is ideal, though additional helpers may be welcomed at the Manager’s discretion.

Team Parent / Coordinator
The Team Parent helps keep everything running smoothly. They assist the Manager with communication, scheduling, organizing snacks, and general team coordination. For specifics, your team’s Manager can guide you through the details.

Junior Umpire
Junior Umpires work with an Umpire Coordinator and typically cover field umpire positions for select Peninsula Little League games (home plate is handled by professional umpires). Junior Umpires must complete required training—such as an umpire clinic, and follow established game protocols. They help manage the flow of the game and maintain order among players, coaches, and spectators.

Field Crew / Maintenance
Field Crew volunteers help prepare and maintain the fields before and/or after games at Peninsula Little League. This role is essential to keeping our facilities safe, playable, and welcoming.

Snack Bar
Peninsula Little League keeps registration fees low by operating a Snack Shack during the season. Each team is assigned a few shifts to cover throughout the year, and volunteers can help by working those shifts during game days.

Scorekeeper
The Scorekeeper tracks the score, pitch count, and any other necessary statistics in the official scorebook for Minor, Major, and Junior division games. The home team provides the official scorekeeper for each game.

Scoreboard Operator / Announcer
This volunteer ensures the scoreboard accurately reflects the score, ball/strike count, and pitch information. They may also announce players or game updates if desired. One volunteer can handle both duties, or they can be split between two people.
